I love turquoise and stripes! I never knew myself to be so predictable! At least these are two things that I KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that I will always love. Now, if I could only figure out how to budget a checkbook!
Fall Is Just Arriving While Fashion Is “Spring”-ing Forward:The Trend Report
September finishes up one of the busiest weeks for fashion as the designers preview their Spring 2012 collections in Paris, Milan, New York, and London. While the rest of us are just now putting away our linen and labor day whites, and dragging out our favorite boots and sweaters, it seems crazy to even be talking about spring- but fashionistas know the drill. And I will let you know who was front and center and the major shows picking their fav runway looks for Spring.
Young blood- front and center- really young!
HCC: Hyper Chic Color
Color on Crack is no exaggeration to describe designers’ take on color for Spring 2012. Oscar De La Renta, Thakoon, Marc Jacob, Haider Ackermann, even Donna Karen can’t help but embrace electrifying blues and citrus yellows and limes. So, those of you stuck in black and white- time to break out the shades and let your inner Elton John rule your house of color!
Put on your Big Girl Pants
It is time for women of the world to take after style icon Coco Chanel and wear the pants and the high heels. Almost every designer showed high waisted cigarette pants with peplum tops or blazers in vibrant textured hues. Tailored but still very feminine.
In the Flesh
That’s right ladies, as vibrant as the colors are, we also can expect soft flesh and nude tones as well. chiffon blouses, long gowns, billowing silks all in varying sexy nudes. I predict the summer to be stifling!
If you want to break the monotony of sticking to the mainstream clothing styles that are influenced by the top notch designers, the ideal choice that would cater to your taste happens to be the street fashion trends, which brings the desired change as well as offers a chance to opt for inspirational dressing patterns. With the outfits embracing street fashion trends you feel comfortable, as you feel good and look good too.
Here’s what we have to be looking and shopping for right now to get the deals for Fall 2010’s fashion topsy turvy- as we have a lot of major changes to expect. However, by shopping now and clearing out vintage stores and relatives’ closets your wallet won’t suffer the consequences. Shopping is the only subject that actually translates financial jargon such as “economic forecasts and trends” in a way I can understand and apply it in day-to-day life. So, here we go!
The Fall 2010 Runway Rundown:
It’s all about the 60’s and not the hippy short-skirt-bohemian verging on 70’s, but the elegant calf length A-line, button down skirts in camels, wools, suedes, chocolates, and amazing feminine tall boots and hats 60’s
Silk blouses with the center bow-neckties, feminine yet tailored
My favorite accent accessory happens to be the long calf to knee length overcoats in camel or large wool capes with oversized buttons. Blazers, Berrets, wool hats, gloves, over-the-top elegance in understated cuts and colors
Double Breasted Overcoats- mid-calf to knee length trenches
Stalkings- yes ladies, stalkings
Elegant turtle necks, cowl necks, ribbed sweaters belted with long skirts and belts topped off with berrets
The hair and make-up is just as important to finish the polished and elegant look. Accessories are classic. We are going back in time this season and it is going to be a blast AKA: time to rade Grandma’s closet asap time! So, ladies- trade your summertime rompers for faux flings and thigh-high cut-offs for sky high platform heels and slacks! Here’s what I mean:
I like to take evening walks through Beverly Hills, particularly on Rodeo, Bedford, etc. and check out what everyone has put in their windows. I noticed a few really fabulous trends for spring. Take a look.
The next “haute” thing is actually something already on your head- Hair!! But, here’s the catch- Ribbons and Braids! The Chanel Boutique in Beverly Hills showcases all of the mannequins wearing thick black and white solid three inch wide satin ribbons wrapped around the forehead then braided into a side braid or tightly wrapped around the base of the pony tail about 4 inches down. Here is a really cool video I found to inspire the look!

Over The Head Version:
The easiest way for two braids, such as to go under a hat: Measure a length of ribbon that is as long as your hair–start at one end of your loose-hanging hair, go up over your head, and back down to the end of your hair on the other side. (See the drawing.)
Separate your hair into two sections; left and right. Use a bobby pin to anchor the ribbon at the top of your head so that one end hangs down on the left, and one end hangs down on the right. Start braiding on one side, using the ribbon as one strand and the hair as the other two. When the first side is finished, braid the other side.
To finish, wrap the extra ribbon around the bottom of the braid and tie it off. If you would like more security, use an elastic and then cover the elastic with extra ribbon. This style will result in two braids and a ribbon that goes over the top of your head, which looks kinda nice, or can be covered by a hat.
Not Over the Top Version:
For single braids, or braids without the ribbon going over the top of your head, you can start the braid in the following manner. This is also the easiest way to make a braid and tie it off without elastics. Take a length of ribbon twice as long as the hair you are going to braid. Tie it snugly, with a half-knot, around the hair. Separate the hair into two sections; begin braiding. After making about three crossovers, make sure the ribbon is still tied fairly tightly at the top. Continue braiding to where you want to stop. Wind one of the two ends of ribbon clockwise around the braid, and wind the other one counter-clockwise. Tie off.
How To Keep Braid Cases On Your Hair:
If you are wearing braid cases, or just want to tie off your braids without elastic, thread a piece of ribbon straight through the finished braid. Crisscross the ribbon down the braid for about 3″ or more (or over the outside of the braid casing), and finish by wrapping the ends in opposite directions around the braid and tying it off. Some people think that braid cases are a bit dubious; do a websearch for articles if you’re interested in the issue.
Hats Off To This Trend!
